Caldwell Dominicans Hold Chapters of Life and Mission and Elections


Under the ever-present veil of the pandemic, the Sisters of Saint Dominic of Caldwell, NJ, held their Chapters of Life of Mission and Elections from July 20-26. Originally scheduled to take place in the Motherhouse Chapel as separate events in March and May, the chapters were rescheduled to be held in succession in Caldwell University’s gymnasium, which allowed sisters to follow all physical distancing protocols.

Translator of Writing of Pope Francis Has Strong Ties to Adrian Dominican Sisters


A three-volume series of the homilies and speeches of Archbishop of Buenos Aires (1999-2013), Jorge Mario Bergoglio (Pope Francis) might at first glance seem far removed from Adrian, MI. Yet the three-volume set has a special connection to the Adrian Dominican Sisters: the works were translated from Spanish into English by Marina A. Herrera, PhD, a former Adrian Dominican Sister who remains a friend of many members of the Congregation.

Dominican Sisters of Houston Install New Irrigation System


In the fall of 1994, the ecology committee of the Dominican Sisters of Houston had a dream to use a small plot of the motherhouse grounds for a vegetable garden, one that would give witness to their commitment to live and act in an ecologically responsible manner. On Good Friday in April of 1995, the dream was realized, and a garden was laid out. Today, a long-time volunteer and her husband gift a new irrigation system.

Sister Alice Grillo Retires After 31 Years


After 31 years at St. Agnes Academic High School in College Point, NY, Sister of St. Dominic of Amityville Alice Grillo is saying goodbye! The students and staff will miss this educator who has been teaching English to freshman and sophomores during her tenure, as well as serving as the student council moderator for the past 15 years.

St. Mary Magdalene, Patroness of Dominican Order, Described as Apostle, Seeker, and Prophet


St. Mary of Magdala – faithful follower of Jesus throughout his ministry, death, and resurrection – is not only the Apostle to the Apostles but a seeker and a prophet. That was the gist of a July 22, 2020, presentation by Sister Geneal Kramer, OP, on the Feast of St. Mary of Magdala.

An Update from the UN: Working to End Homelessness

In May 2019, representatives from the End Homelessness Working Group attended the 58th Session of the Commission for Social Development on the theme 'affordable housing and social protection systems for all to address homelessness' in Nairobi, Kenya. When Sister Durstyne Farnan, OP, arrived at the UN in October 2019, she joined this group and has been working with them since to prepare and finalize the Declaration on Homelessness.
